tetris is a game based on arranging and rotating blocks to form a horizontal row on the screen as blocks of different shapes fall down. When one or more straight rows are created, the rows are lost. The aim of the game is to prevent the blocks from piling up on the top of the screen for as long as possible. Let's take a look at the origin story of this addictive and popular game in the 80s and 90s, and take a look at what we can learn about mathematics from this interesting game.
How did Tetris come about?
Henry Dudeney, perhaps one of the greatest puzzle inventors the world has ever seen, was fond of playing chess and thinking about math problems since he was little. So much so that this curiosity led him to write crosswords in a local newspaper. In the following years, Dudeney, although he did not go far academically, did not give up his interest in mathematics, as he studied the history of mathematics in his spare time.
