What You Need to Make Cranberry Boursin Dip:

Ingredients for Cranberry Boursin Dip including Boursin cheese, cranberry sauce, pistachios, and hot honey

  • Boursin Cheese: Look for Boursin cheese in the cheese section of most grocery stores. The cranberry and black pepper flavor is highly recommended for this recipe, but other sweet varieties like apple and maple can also be used. Avoid savory flavors like garlic and herb, as they won’t complement the other ingredients as well.
  • Cranberry Sauce: Homemade cranberry sauce is always a winner, but canned whole berry cranberry sauce works just as well in a pinch.
  • Pistachios: Opt for shelled, whole pistachios to save time and effort. Simply chop them with a sharp knife or nut chopper before adding them to the dip.
  • Hot Honey: A drizzle of hot honey adds a touch of sweet and spicy flavor to the dip. Don’t worry, it’s not overly spicy! If you prefer, you can substitute regular honey or pure maple syrup. Alternatively, you can easily make your own hot honey by infusing regular honey with crushed red pepper flakes.

How to Make Cranberry Boursin Dip: Step-by-Step Instructions

This elegant appetizer is incredibly easy to assemble. With just 4 ingredients and about 10-12 minutes, you can create a festive dish that’s perfect for any gathering.

Spreading Boursin cheese in a serving bowl

  1. Step 1: Add the Boursin cheese to a shallow serving bowl or rimmed platter. Use the back of a spoon to gently press the cheese into an even layer. Create small dips and divots with the spoon to provide little pockets for the cranberry sauce and honey to collect.
Spreading cranberry sauce over the Boursin cheese

  1. Step 2: Pour ½ cup of cranberry sauce over the layer of Boursin cheese. Use the spoon to spread it out evenly, filling the divots you created earlier.
Sprinkling chopped pistachios over the cranberry sauce

  1. Step 3: Sprinkle the chopped pistachios generously over the cranberry layer, ensuring an even distribution.
Drizzling hot honey over the assembled dip

  1. Step 4: Drizzle the hot honey evenly over the entire dip. Adjust the amount to your liking, depending on your preferred level of sweetness and spice.

Serve and Enjoy!

For an extra touch, garnish with fresh orange zest. Serve this delightful dip with a variety of options such as fruit and nut crackers, bagel chips, or toasted baguette slices. Provide a dip spreader or spoon for your guests, along with small appetizer plates, and a side of extra hot honey for drizzling. Watch as your guests rave about this simple yet elegant appetizer!

Tips for Chopping Pistachios:

  • While food processors can be used for chopping nuts, a small manual nut chopper provides more control and prevents over-processing.
  • To remove any fine pistachio dust that accumulates during chopping, pass the chopped nuts through a fine mesh strainer. The collected dust can be used in graham cracker crusts or composted.
  • Pistachios can be expensive when purchased in small quantities. Save money by buying them in bulk. Purchasing them pre-shelled saves time and effort.

Storing Leftovers:

Leftovers can be tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or transferred to an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. While the nuts may lose some of their crunch, and the texture might become slightly softer, the dip will still taste delicious!

Flavor Variations:

  • With Pepper Jelly: Substitute the cranberry sauce with ½ cup of pepper jelly and use chopped pecans instead of pistachios. Omit the hot honey, as pepper jelly already offers a balance of sweet and spicy flavors. Garnish with chopped green onions for a festive pop of color.
  • With Cranberry Relish: Use leftover cranberry relish in place of cranberry sauce. To make cranberry relish, combine 1 small bag of washed cranberries, ¼ cup of fresh orange juice, and 1 cup of granulated sugar in a food processor. Process until the cranberries are finely chopped. Use ½ cup of this mixture for the dip, and serve the remaining relish as a dip for crackers or crostini.
  • Without Boursin: If you can’t find Boursin cheese, use an 8-oz block of softened cream cheese or soft goat cheese as a substitute.

Cranberry Boursin Dip Recipe

Cranberry Boursin Dip

This 4-ingredient Cranberry Boursin Dip is the perfect holiday appetizer! It’s sweet, salty, crunchy, and creamy.

  • Prep Time: 12 minutes
  • Total Time: 12 minutes
  • Servings: 8
  • Calories: 244 kcal

Ingredients:

  • 2 packages (150g each) Boursin cheese cranberry and black pepper (or Apple and Maple)
  • ½ cup whole berry cranberry sauce canned or homemade
  • ⅓ cup chopped pistachios
  • ¼ cup hot honey store-bought, homemade, or regular honey
  • Crackers, for serving (Raincoast Crisps recommended)

Instructions:

  1. Add the Boursin cheese to a medium serving bowl or rimmed serving platter. Use the back of a spoon to spread the cheese, and smooth it into a rough, but even layer.
  2. Pour the cranberry sauce on top of the Boursin cheese layer, then spread it around evenly with a clean spoon.
  3. Sprinkle the chopped pistachios on top of the cranberry layer.
  4. Drizzle the surface generously with hot honey (or regular honey), and garnish with fresh orange zest (if desired).
  5. Serve with your favorite charcuterie-style crackers (Raincoast Crisps recommended) or toasted baguette slices. Provide a dip spreader or spoon on the side for guests.

Notes:

Chopping pistachios: We purchased pistachios shelled at Costco, then use a small nut chopper to prepare them as needed. This keeps them nice and fresh! There is a fair amount of “dust” that comes from chopping nuts. We take care of this by placing the nuts in a fine mesh strainer and place a paper towel on the counter. We shake the strainer gently, and stir the nuts with a spoon. The ultra fine dust falls to the paper towel and can be discarded (or added to graham cracker crusts).

Hot honey: We love to make homemade hot honey with crushed red peppers. It’s very quick and easy, and much cheaper than store-bought versions. If desired, you can use regular honey or even a drizzle of pure maple syrup.

Make ahead: One of the things we love most about this easy dip recipe is that it can be assembled in minutes and served right away! That being said, you may want to make it in advance. For that we recommend spreading the Boursin into the serving dish, but leaving the cranberries, pistachio, and hot honey off until just before serving. This prevents the cranberry sauce from pooling and the nuts from becoming soft. You can definitely measure out and prepare all the individual ingredients, then put them all together when you’re ready to serve.
